Communicating a boundary clearly

A simple structure for saying what you need without over-explaining.

A simple structure

  1. 1Name it plainly"I need..." or "I'm not able to..."
  2. 2Keep the reason short, if you give one at allOne sentence, not a defence.
  3. 3State what you'll do"So I'm going to..." — this keeps the boundary about your own action.
  4. 4Stop talkingResist the urge to fill silence with more justification.

"I need to leave by 6. I'll head off then, but let's grab the next hour."
