Derealisation

When the world itself feels distant, unreal or dreamlike.

  • Card 1

Where depersonalisation affects the sense of self, derealisation affects the sense of the outside world. Surroundings can feel foggy, dreamlike, distant, or somehow artificial — as though there is a pane of glass between you and everything around you.

  • Card 2

    This can include

    • Familiar places suddenly feeling unfamiliar or 'off'
    • Sounds or colours seeming muffled, flat, or distorted
    • A sense that other people are behaving like actors, or that nothing is quite real
    • Time feeling like it is moving strangely — too fast, too slow, or disjointed
  • Card 3

Derealisation can be unsettling, but it is a recognised response and not a sign that something is fundamentally wrong with you. It usually eases as safety and grounding return.
