Dissociation can affect memory in various ways — from ordinary forgetfulness during a stressful day, to noticeable gaps around distressing events, to a general sense of foggy or patchy recall of periods of life.
This might include
- Losing time — arriving somewhere with little memory of getting there
- Gaps around a specific stressful or frightening event
- A general sense of foggy memory during certain periods of your life
- Finding it hard to recall recent conversations or decisions
Memory difficulties can have many causes, including stress, sleep, trauma, or unrelated medical reasons. If they concern you, it's worth speaking to a GP as a first step.
