Some people find it useful to write a short letter to themselves at a younger age. Others find this uncomfortable or not for them. Either response is completely fine — you can adapt the exercise, write to "a part of me" instead, or skip it entirely.
If you would like to try it
- 1Choose an ageWhatever feels relevant, or leave it unspecified.
- 2Write what you noticedWhat that time seemed to be like for them.
- 3Write what you wish they had heardIn plain, warm words.
- 4Sign it from you, nowAs the person who made it through.
There is no correct length or tone. A few honest sentences count as much as a full page.
You might explore these in your own words — there is no right answer, and stopping partway is completely fine.
