The urge to reach out to someone who has hurt you can feel physical — a restlessness, an ache, a pull that has little to do with logic. This is sometimes compared to withdrawal, and while that comparison isn't a diagnosis, many people find it captures the intensity accurately.
Urges to reconnect often spike around
- Anniversaries, birthdays or shared dates
- Being tired, unwell, or already low
- Seeing something that reminds you of a good moment
- Loneliness, especially late at night
- Success or good news you instinctively want to share
An urge is a wave — it tends to rise, peak and pass, whether or not you act on it. Recognising the pattern doesn't make the urge disappear immediately, but it can make it feel less like an emergency and more like something you can ride out.
